The Béraud family were a wealthy and influential family of merchants that first arrived in Cyprus, from France, in the 17th century. The Sylvain Béraud Collection consists of 150 personal photographs from Prof. Sylvain Béraud, who moved to Cyprus from Egypt in 1934 at the age of one. Sylvain Béraud would go on to teach at Ecole Saint Joseph in Nicosia for 20 years, author many books, and act as a prominent promoter and supporter of the Latin community in Cyprus, earning him the titles of Chevalier and Officier de l’ Ordre National du Mérite.
This particular selection entitled, Sylvain Béraud Collection – Childhood and Family, includes 92 black and white photographs from Sylvain’s early years in Cyprus, as well as photos of his immediate family and their ancestors.
The images that comprise the online collection were reproduced from the original roll films. The titles were taken from inscriptions when available. Where no inscriptions were available the titles were generated by the cataloguer describing the depicted subject.
